Vista says "this computer is not connected to any network" when i'm posting here from it..?
Hello,I'm not sure what's happened lately, but my pc appears to have gone a bit haywire. It says it's not connected to any network, yet i can browse all the pc's on my network and have full access to the internet. The knock on effect which i can't overcome is that i use it for media sharing to the rest of the house, and as media player says i'm not connected to any network, i can't enable sharing again.I've tried a repair on the LAN connection (this pc doesn't have a wireless connection) and that has found nothing. When i click on 'diagnose why window's cant find any networks' it tells me to install wireless drivers, or verify the correct drivers are loaded. There's no unknown devices in device mangler, and i'm starting to run out of idea's. I've also disabled windows firewall, the only other software on here is the free version of AVG with no firewall facility. As windows has defaulted to a public network, as it can't decide that i'm on any network at all everything also got locked down, and had to open up a load of app's again.I'm running out of ideas, anyone have something for me to try, or have heard of this? ipconfig /release, flushdns, renew etc (usual repair option) done manually still didn't help :(Regards,Dave

Hi Dave, Thank you for posting. Please let me know where you noticed that Windows is not connected to any network. Please also capture some screenshots for the following and we will perform some further researches: 1. The message Windows is not connected to any network you noticed. 2. Media Player says i'm not connected to any network, i can't enable sharing again. 3. The result of diagnose why Windows cant find any networks 4. Network and Sharing Center Capture a screenshot ============== 1) Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click Desktop on the left pane and then click "Save". Please use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the files and share the URLs with us. At this time, please try the following to narrow down the issue: 1. Please ensure that the connection status is O.K. Does other Windows Vista computer encounter this issue? 2. Please go to Network and Sharing Center and check if the Media Sharing has been enabled. 3. Please remove and reinstall the NIC driver. If there is a new version of driver released, please also try it and see if it works. Hope this helps. Thank you for your efforts.Nicholas Li - MSFT
